Meet Hydra
The name of Hydra is due to the abundant water that gushed from the rich sources that had in antiquity.

Historians mention the island by the name Hydrea and the interior of the island are preserved traces of ancient settlements, as evidenced by archaeological excavations at Episkopi.

The first inhabitants were the Dryopes.

The town of Hydra is built on two low rocky hills around the port

The harbor filled with cruise boats

Main feature of Hydra is that there are no cars, so people move only by donkeys, which  makes the island unique as a destination and one of the ten cities in the world that banned automobiles.

As we continue, right hand from the port, we end at Kamini, with its picturesque harbor and a wonderful sunset.

One kilometer after Kamini are Vlihos and Plakes

All beaches are organized with umbrellas, sun beds and clean sea.

At Vliho you find Hydra's Diving Centre. Get the opportunity for a diving course.

The road to the left of the harbor, after two kilometers, ends at Mandraki, the military harbor of the island during war, which is now an organized beach.

After the beach the road climbs to the monasteries of St. Nicholas, the Holly Trinity and Agia Matrona.
